The Firefly 2 is a sleek and stylish vaporizer that comes loaded with several features for a sticker price of $329.95 USD. It is a great device for vaporizing dry herbs and concentrates, with multiple heat settings to choose from and a bulk load of battery life. After using the product for some time, we have written down our experience in detail in this review. Find out more below!
The Firefly 2 is the latest edition of the original Firefly and has taken the vape market by storm. Similar to its predecessor, the new version is a premium on-demand dynamic convection vaporizer, which can be used on the go. It has an on demand heating system that will attract the attention of the people who like quick or brief sessions, without wasting their herbs.
Firefly 2 Heating Efficiency And Vapor Path
Compared to its previous edition, the latest version of Firefly makes use of a fifty watt heater and a borosilicate glass bowl. There are six total heat settings, five total herb settings (340, 360, 380, 400 & 420 Fahrenheit) and a single setting for concentrates (500 Fahrenheit). The heating has improved, allowing the vaporizer to reach up to 400 Fahrenheit in 3 seconds and 420 Fahrenheit in 5 seconds. The borosilicate bowl keeps the temperature to minimum, allowing you to put your finger in it, set it to concentrate temperature of 500 Fahrenheit and get the trigger down for 10 seconds, without feeling any heat.
It is no surprise that the heating is very efficient. In fact, you can break a single bowl in to several sessions, since the herbs are only heated when you are using it. The model comes with a fifty five holes pattern at the base of the bowl and takes in a greater amount of air compared to the original version.
Size And Portability
If you were happy with the pretty minimal size of the original Firefly, you would be surprised to know that the Firefly 2 comes with an even smaller size (33% less) and an even lighter body (55% less). The former is primarily due to significant engineering improvements, while the latter is extensively due to shift from a stainless steel body to magnesium alloy body. The smaller and lighter footprint means that the upgraded model can now compete with the Crafty and the Air vaporizers in this category.
The Firefly 2 is still not the most discreet vaporizer in the market when compared to other premium alternatives. However, its smaller size, faster heating and bare-minimum smell make it better than the average vaporizer in this regard.
Accessories and Applications
The Firefly 2 comes with a user-friendly set of two swappable batteries, making it one of the few models in the market to offer such convenience. The vape is also shipped with a cleaning kit comprising of two sword tools, multi-sided brush, and isopropyl wipes. You also get a USB charging dock and concentrate pads in the package.
The vaporizer is supported with an Apple and an Android Bluetooth connected application. The application is quite easy to use. You can change temperatures for dry herb or control the setting for concentrates. There is also an option to check the battery level of your vape.
The San Francisco-based manufacturer has stated that it shall be regularly updating and improving the applications for greater usability and new features.
One of the best features of the Firefly 2 is its low cleaning and maintenance requirements. You can clean it after several long sessions (up to 25 bowls!), without affecting its performance or life. However, there may be occasional buildups on the window. Since there is no screen in the bowl, all you have to do is to clean it using the isopropyl wipe that comes with the vaporizer, followed by a quick wiping of the body and the lid. In general, the cleaning takes barely a minute to get done.
Another huge improvement in the new model is the increased battery life. The previous version was highly criticized for having the shortest battery per charge and faster-than-average battery degradation. However, with the new and more efficient system in the Firefly 2, the battery life has seen a hundred percent improvement, even at maximum usage!
In general, the Firefly 2 can give six bowls of dry herb (6-8 draws of 30-second draws). The battery life is less with concentrates, but nothing as low as in the original Firefly. Added to the efficient system, the replaceable batteries and quick charging (50 minutes for the full charge) means that there is little to complain about the battery situation.
The Firefly 2 grows on you as a user. The most notable positive about this vaporizer is its outstanding flavor and the cool vapor. It is very easy to use and needs no special expertise for optimum performance. The unit is great for the users of both dry herbs and concentrates. Moreover, with little to no maintenance required, there cannot be anything other than good to be said about this vaporizer.
Perhaps if one is forced to select a drawback about this unit, the only thing that comes to the mind is the unnecessary need of stirring it to get the best results. This again is a minor issue and would be ignored by most vapers for the quality they are getting overall.
