The Vapor Genie vaporizer pipe looks like a tobacco pipe. It’s made from real wood and sturdy metal, but it is actually a portable vaporizer. If you are using it properly, you won’t suffer through any more chemicals that you would with a typical vaporizer pen or portable vaporizer.
The solid, one-piece pipe is decidedly old school, and we love it for that. It’s made for people who are used to something a bit different from today’s pens, electronic cigarettes and sleek, curvy vaporizers.
This is probably the simplest vaporizer in the world to use. You simply open the top or bowl and put in your herb. As with most portable vaporizers, the finer you grind it the better, but it’s not a big deal either way. Then you put an attachable chamber over the top of the bowl and light it. You can use a lighter to do it. Any old lighter will do, but it is recommended by the manufacturers that you use an electric one instead of a butane one.
This will prevent you from inhaling any additional chemicals. If you use the electronic lighter, you get the same basic experience as anyone using any other kind of vaporizer.
Then just proceed to inhale like you would normally. You get nice, clean hits with no cheap parts muddling the experience with their bad tastes. We thought the vapor production was about average, as was the quality of the vapor. We have no complaints there.
Using the Vapor Genie pipe is a very different experience from other vaporizers. You don’t plug it in to charge it or adjust the temperature. Everything is done automatically once you light it up with a lighter. How you perceive all that will be up to you. For some people, there will be a pleasant simplicity to the experience. For others, they will be bothered by the lack of control and the very different aesthetic.
We like the sensibilities at play here and appreciate how simple everything is. And we also love the low $55 price point. All that is great, but it leaves us an experience that is really out of our hands. We would prefer to be able to adjust things more and get a vaping session that feels a bit more personalized. Sometimes your herb is going to burn and sometimes it will be just right. It can be hit or miss at times, and that’s just the unpredictability of working with non-electronic heat sources.

QSC Rating: 86/100 by Quit Smoking Community
So the discretion is a nice tick in its favor, but then you have to remember that you have little to no control over this thing. If it wants to burn up all your herb before you think your session should be over, then it may just do that. You herbs won’t be combusting, however, as only the heat is designed to reach the herbs thanks to the chamber placed on top of the bowl. But there is still some frustration here, and we almost wish that Vapor Genie had gone with the more standardized, electronic approach.
- Beautiful design evokes pipes used for tobacco
- Very simple and easy to use
- Also simple to clean
- Great craftsmanship and build quality
- Excellent price
- No temperature control
- The bowl isn’t very big
- Vapor quality is unpredictable
In the end, we would recommend this to people who maybe aren’t so used to or comfortable with the flashy, modern vaporizers. And there will be those people who have used vaporizers before who will find this just incredibly cool. For those people, this is good buy at a good price. But if you are serious about your vaping and you know what kind of options are out there, you won’t want to settle with this as your primary vaporizer.
