We take into account quality, price, convenience and performance in our rankings, as well as user reviews and feedback on other sites. Without further ado, let’s jump into it.

Just like its remarkable flexibility, the V3’s vapor quality is outstanding. Despite its exceptional performance, the Haze V3 is portable and easy to carry around.

Top 4 Portable Vaporizers in $150-$300 Range
Unfortunately, all of the high quality vaporizers are going to be in this price range. If you go under $150, you are probably going to be looking at something that lacks in vapor quality/production, sturdiness, and just generally isn’t going to match the ones in this category. There are good options that we’ll go over below, but if you are investing in an expensive vape, you’re probably better putting another $100 in to get something great.
#1 The Matrix Vaporizer $149

The Matrix Vaporizer takes the top spot on our list by offering the best value with great performance at an affordable price. Vapor from the dry herb is smooth and clean, and users can even swap out the chamber for one that accepts oil concentrates. A paragon of simplicity in operation and maintenance and a great overall vape makes The Matrix the vaporizer to beat in this price range. If you are on the lookout for an affordable vaporizer that produces far more than its price suggests, The Matrix just might be the ‘one’.

#2 V2Pro Series 7 Vaporizer $169
Taking up the second spot on our top portable vaporizer list is the V2 Pro Series 7 Vaporizer. A versatile device, the Pro Series 7 lets users vape on dry herb, oils, or wax concentrates with ease. Vapor production ranks among the best, plus its size and usability makes it perfect for both beginners and advanced users. It costs a bit more than The Matrix, but the difference in price is worth it if you need an all-in-one device that does not compromise performance for its versatility.
#3 Pax 2 $279.99

The Pax 2 was JUST released and it’s really taken the vaporizer world by storm. It’s getting rave reviews from everyone all over the web. We received one. We tried it. It lives up to the hype. It’s super compact, the vapor production is huge, the vapor taste is great and it’s extremely easy to use and clean. Plus it holds a TON of herb and is great for group vaping. The original Pax was good, but the Pax 2 makes it look like an antique. Best portable option right now. You’ll pay maybe $20-30 more than some of the below options but it’s easily worth it.
#4 Arizer Solo Vaporizer $223.99

Before the Pax 2 came out, the Arizer Solo was #1 on our list. It’s still a fantastic vaporizer. Every time you use it, you have a smooth experience with excellent vapor production. Good for personal use or with friends. Very efficient, your herbs will seem to last forever. Easy to load, clean and just very little hassle at all. The only thing that makes it inferior to the Pax 2 is it’s larger size, it’s less portable. But if you don’t plan on doing too much on-the-go vaping than you can save about $50 and still get a super quality vape.
Top 3 Portable Vaporizers in $100-$150 Range
Top The Orbit Vaporizer $99

Orbit vaporizer is the cheapest decent vaporizer now and this fact make us put it on the top of our $100-$200 range list. Orbit is small and works only with dry herb, but despite its size, the vapor quality and durability are on the same level with the more expensive products on the market. It’s also very easy to clean and maintain, and the heat up time is amazing.
#1 Vapir NO2 Handheld Vaporizer $92.49

The Vapir NO2 is about $170 cheaper than most of the vapes in the $200-$300 category. If you only have $100 to spend, this is definitely one of the best options. The vapor production is pretty good, not as good as the Pax 2 or Arizer Solo or Firefly, but it’s good. The only issue is that it’s a bit of a pain to load and clean out the herb chamber, plus it doesn’t hold a ton. But regardless of that, it’s a great budget vape.
#2 Magic Flight Launch Box $119

The Magic Flight Launch Box is a very famous vape. It’s unlike anything else on this list because it’s handcrafted and made mostly out of wood. It’s also the cheapest vape on this list. You’re not going to see vapor quality like you do with any of the above vapes, but it definitely gets the job done. People really love their Magic Flight Launch Box, the only issue is their longevity. They won’t last as long as most portable vapes, but it is a lot cheaper.
#3 Indica Lighter Vaporizer – $199.95

The Indica Vaporizer is another unique product. It’s a high octane dry herb vaporizer disguised as a zippo lighter! This is probably the most discreet vaporizer on the market besides the PuffIt Inhaler Vaporizer.
But the most discreet vape is not always the best vape, In this case though, we found that the Indica performed almost up to par with some of the big name, and big size portables on the market. It wasn’t AS good as the Arizer Solo or Pax or FireFly, but it held it’s own and makes up for the difference in coolness of design.
You would think that a small, novelty vaporizer like this would not have very many controls. But it actually has 5 different heat settings that you can maneuver through with buttons and blinking LED lights. Our team took a little bit of time to get accustomed, but once they did they found it was very intuitive.
Unlike the MFLB, the product chamber on the Indica is actually really big. Cavernous even. It’s honestly bigger than our #1 selection, the Arizer Solo. This thing can hold a lot of herb!
This product is still relatively new, but the reviews so far combined with our review teams rating show that this could be the future of very small portable vaporizers. The only problem right now is the steep price tag, but in this case I would say it’s worth the price if you have the money. Very fun to use with friends and more powerful than we ever expected.
#4 ioLite WISPR $119

This vaporizer is also quirky like the Magic Flight Launch Box, and it’s the same price. The ioLite WISPR is the only vape on here that runs on butane instead of battery power. The vapor production is solid, once again not like the vapes in the $200 to $300 category but it gets the job done. It’s also nice not to have to worry about recharging it, though carrying around butane can be a bit of a pain. A bit more powerful than the Magic Flight Launch Box but also less portable.
The Best (If You Have $399 to Spend)
#1 Mighty Vaporizer $399.99
It’s simply the best portable vape on the market. The price may be a turn off to some people but if you have the money than you will not be disappointed. It’s created by the maker of the Volcano and it delivers vapor that almost matches the most famous vaporizer on the market. It also has precise temperature controls, a super long battery life, and is just built to last. If you want huge, aromatic vapor production from a handheld device, the Mighty Vaporizer is the way to go.
Top 10 Portable Vaporizers Overall – Extended Information
THE WINNER
#1 Arizer Solo – $223.99

Compared to models like the Pax and FireFly, the Arizer Solo is an old soul. It’s been on the market for about 3 years already, and yet it still seems to be the most dependable and highest performing portable vaporizer on the market.
2 members of our review team already owned an Arizer Solo, and both of them continued to use it even though all of these new vaporizers were coming out. It’s just that good.
The Arizer Solo is comprised of 2 parts: the battery/base and the glass pipe. First you preheat the base, then you load the dry herb into the bottom of the glass pipe, and then slide the base upside down onto it. Then flip the whole thing so you can inhale on the straw, and you’re almost good to go.
I wanted to explain the process because I think it’s what makes the Arizer Solo so lovable. I love the ritual of packing the glass pipe with product, waiting for the base to heat up, and getting ready to inhale on the delicious vapor that comes out. The Arizer Solo also essentially uses an “all glass” heating and delivery system, which explains why it’s vapor tastes so good.
For each load of the pipe, I would say you get about 15-20 solid inhales. And reloading is as simple as knocking the glass pipe against the side of a cup or ashtray and then blowing the remainder out. No need to mess with screens or any complex system. Additionally, the Arizer Solo is built to last. We have both had ours for over 2 years, and they are both still going strong. You can’t argue with those results.
And we’re not the only ones who feel this way about the Arizer Solo. On VapeWorld.com, it was reviewed 66 times and came out with a total of 4.8 out of 5 stars. That’s amazing if you think about it. 66 reviews and it only missed a perfect score by .2 stars.
Overall, after seriously trying out the competition and giving every well-known portable vaporizer a shot, we still have the Arizer Solo as the undisputed champion of the personal vaping world.
#2 The FireFly – $269.95

The FireFly is another up and comer like the Pax, it has gotten very popular recently and has become the go-to portable vaporizer for many people.
Like the DaVinci Ascent, it uses an all glass heating and delivery system, which ensures you aren’t having any vaporized plastic or metal shot into your lungs. After testing all of these vaporizers, we thought that the glass heating chamber produced the best flavor overall.
The glass heating chamber isn’t the only quality that is well-made on the FireFly, it just feels sturdy and built to last, unlike some of the other vapes on our list. It is a little bit heavy but it’s built so solidly that the extra weight isn’t a big worry.
In terms of performance, it vaporizes with the best of them. The heating mechanism gets to work almost instantly once you start her up, and the taste and cloud volume is really fantastic. For each load of the chamber with dry herb, you get about 10 really satisfying puffs of great tasting vapor. That’s not a lot of puffs but it is built in a way that makes it extremely easy to clean out and refill. Probably the best out of all 10 when it comes to maintenance and refilling.
Overall, the FireFly is the highest priced personal vape on this list, but we thought it was worth the price tag due to it’shigh quality build and great performance.
#3 Pax by Ploom Vaporizer – $249.99

The Pax vaporizer by Ploom has exploded in popularity since the beginning of 2014. Now at the beginning of 2016, it’s right up at top of pile when it comes to brand recognition. I know I have personally seen about 50 Pax advertisements in the past year alone.
But we all know that intense marketing doesn’t mean that the product is great. But in this case, it does. The Pax makes the Top 3 of our list, ranked as the 3rd best portable vaporizer in the world.
It doesn’t do anything amazingly well, but it does everything well enough to make it worth the high price tag. It’s small, easily fits in your pocket, it performs consistently and it’s very sleek. It doesn’t hold a lot of product in the chamber, we pretty much could only get .2 g of dry herb in at a time, which was worth about 10 puffs. Not a lot, but refilling is a breeze and it’s size is one of it’s best features anyway.
All in all, you won’t be disappointed in this personal vaporizer. It’s probably the closest the vaporizer market will get to an Apple product. It performs well, looks great, is the perfect size and does everything at least well enough in every single category with no glaring weaknesses to speak of.
#4 Pinnacle Pro – $228.99

The Pinnacle Pro looks like it could easily be another vaporizer pen. It has the shape and size for it. But fortunately for us, it actually does a great job vaporizing dry herb!
The size to power ratio on this vape is probably the best on the list. It checks in at a very comfortable 5″ long and 1″ around. Some other products on this list would take up almost all the space in your wallet. The Pinnacle Pro is the size of a large sharpie marker.
Before we start, we just wanted to point out that we do feel the Pinnacle Pro is slightly overpriced. Unlike the last 3 personal vapes which have been sturdy and strong, it is pretty obviously not made with the same robustness in mind.
However, the lack of put-togetherness doesn’t seem to negatively impact the performance at all. It heats up relatively quickly, has 5 different heat settings and uses a ceramic heating chamber. It’s good to know their heating mechanism is more sound than the exterior of their product!
All in all, if you want a truly portable vaporizer that gives you the most vaping power inch for inch, than the Pinnacle Pro is what you’re looking for. Slip it easily into your pocket one minute, inhaling strong, fluffy clouds the next.
#5 Vapir NO2 – $149.99

The Vapir NO2 vaporizer is the little brother of Vapir’s popular “Vapir Rise” desktop system. You can see by the picture that this definitely isn’t the smallest vape in this section, hopefully it brings some of the good traits from it’s desktop older brother.
Probably the best thing about the Vapir NO2 is it’s price. You can get this solid, high-quality personal vaporizer for only $30 more than the Magic Flight Launch Box. No offense to the MFLB, but I would take this machine every day of the week.
We noticed a few things about the Vapir NO2, two good things and two not great things. One was that it was about comparable to the Davinci Ascent in terms of vapor production. Vapir claims to use a “pure brass” heating element while DaVinci claimed “pure glass”. I personally don’t know which is better but they both seem to perform very well. The second thing we noticed was that battery life. This thing could last a loooong time on a single charge. They say about 120 minutes on their website and that seems about right. Definitely good for a vaporizer.
The two other things we noticed were slight negatives. First of all, it didn’t hold as much dry herb as we wished. But it also wasn’t difficult to take it out and put more in, so no huge deal. And second of all, the screens were a tad difficult to replace. However, we thought that these were 2 annoyances that we would happily deal with considering the good price and performance of this vaporizer.
#6 DaVinci Ascent – $249.99

The DaVinci Ascent is the first of our higher end portable vaporizers. You can really tell the different between the low $100 price point and the low $200 price point. The portable vaporizers that are over $200 tend to be sturdier, more powerful and generally better overall than the more budget-friendly ones. There’s nothing wrong with the last items on our list, but the items at the top are just on another level.
Probably the coolest thing about the DaVinci Ascent is that the entire vaporization process takes place on glass. It uses a heating process that takes place in a glass heating center, and the vapor flows out through a glass straw. It never touches plastic or metal, which is a big sticking point for us.
The next coolest thing is that you can program the temperature patterns. If you’ve ever used a vaporizer before, you know how hard it is to get the right temperature to maximize your herb. You usually end up overdoing it at the end and burning the last part of your herb. But with the DaVinci Ascent, you can program it to ramp up the temperature smoothly until the product runs out. For instance, you can have it heat up by 10 degrees every 2 minutes. This way once you get down to the end, it has enough heat to get the rest without human error causing the heating mechanism to burn everything.
And this portable vape is actually one of the few that allows you to use both dry herb and wax concentrates. Most people prefer dry herb but it’s always nice to have that option!
#7 IoLite WISPR Vaporizer – $119

The ioLite brand has put out their 2nd vaporizer in 3 or so years. Their first one was a very popular butane fueled vaporizer that didn’t require a charge or electricity. The ioLite WISPR keeps in that tradition, but has an improved heating engine that makes it even more convenient.
The butane aspect can get a little bit annoying at first, but once you get the refilling process down, it’s just as annoying as having to charge it on the wall. Because it isn’t electric, it takes a little longer to heat up than other vapes, about 45 seconds. It’s really not long at all, their first model took about 2 minutes to get fully heated up.
Once it does get heated up, the ioLite WISPR goes to work. Our team was very impressed not only by the amount of vapor it produced, but by the great taste. Sometimes vaporizers get so hot that they burn the herb, but this setup seems to get the taste just right.
And this vape doesn’t just treat your herbs right when burning them, it also helps you to conserve them. We did the math and found that compared to smoking out of traditional pipes or bongs, using the ioLite WISPR was about 1.5X more efficient. Plus, the chamber on the WISPR is much bigger than the original ioLite, which makes it much easier to share with others.
The only popular butane vaporizer continues to hold it’s own on the market. It’s low price point combined with excellent quality make it our number 7 pick!
#8 Magic Flight Launch Box – $119

The Magic Flight Launch Box (MFLB for short) is one of the most interested products on the vaping market. It’s incredibly small, made out of nothing but some wood, clips and a screwed on lid that covers the heating chamber. And yet it continues to be one of the most popular portable vaporizers on the market today!
The MFLB is known as one of the top budget vaporizer options. Though some could say it’s a bit overpriced at $119, it IS handcrafted in the USA and not made overseas. I would rather pay the extra $30-40 to know it’s made here and not outsourced and made in questionable factories.
In terms of performance, our testers really loved the Magic Flight Launch Box. It heats up within 5-10 seconds and is ready to go. Our reviewers found that it worked best when they either took a very slow inhale, or took 4 or 5 short “sips” quickly in a row. They also found that you could get a little bit bigger inhales if you didn’t use the glass straw and just puffed straight from the box.
It can’t hold a lot of dry herb at once, but it is incredibly efficient. It’s also not that big of a deal to dump out the existing herb and put more in, it’s very user-friendly and not a hassle at all. It also doesn’t produce as much smell as you might think, the aroma after use is pretty much like somebody just popped popcorn in the room.
All in all, this vaporizer is famous for a reason. It’s a high quality, unique product at a very good price.
#9 Atmos Liv – $89.99

The Atmos brand is known mostly for their large selection of vaporizer pens. But they recently released their Atmos Liv portable vaporizer, which is getting a lot of good reviews. The best part is that it’s under $100, which is tough to find in a quality portable vape these days.
The picture makes the vaporizer seem a bit bigger than it actually is. The true dimensions are only 1.25 x 4.5 x 4 in, which allows it to easily slide into your pocket.
Our testers had very good success with this product. It may not be on the level of those at the top of the list in terms of vapor production, but it works great and can save you a lot of money.
The most important thing is that the heating element inside is ceramic, not metal, so the vapor tastes like vapor should. And it’s probably better for you too.
An added bonus is that the battery can work overtime as a charger for your other electronics. Pretty cool if your cell phone runs out of juice at an inopportune time!
Our Definition of a Portable Vaporizer
Pocket vaporizers come in all different shapes, sizes and styles. We only have two rules that a vape must follow to quality as an actually portable: it must fit in your pocket and it must efficiently vaporize dry herb. The ability to work with wax or oils is simply a bonus, not necessary. A vaporizer pen doesn’t fit this definition because there is really not a single pen out there that can vaporize dry herb effectively. A desktop vaporizer doesn’t fit this definition because it can’t fit in your pocket.
You will see some vaporizers on this page that are even smaller than some vape pens, but this is because they actually can work with dry herb. These vapes typically aren’t shaped like a pen, and usually have a bit of an odd design. Standard portable vaporizers typically have a base and a straw, they don’t usually have whips or bags like some of the popular desktop vapes out there today.
