Firefly Vaporizer Review

firefly vapor review

Update: Firefly Vaporizer is no longer available. Check out our review of Firefly 2 Vaporizer.

The FireFly is an interesting vaporizer that looks more like a flip camera than anything. But MAN can this thing perform! It is a fantastic size but it produces vapor like a real champ. And that’s why we ranked it at #2 on our “Top Portable Vaporizers” list last year.

Firefly Speed Review

We know not everybody has time to read our full reviews. So here is a quick category by category breakdown of the Firefly Vaporizer followed by a quick synopsis.

  • Size & Portability: 97%
  • Build Quality/Sturdiness: 96%
  • Price: 75%
  • Overall Rating: 92%
It’s fantastic in every aspect…besides the price tag. Would love to see it under the $200 range. But if you have the money, it’s worth it.

As one of the most popular portable vapes on the market, the Firefly has made quite a name for itself. We had to try this one out just to see what all the fuss was about. Read on to find out if we think it lives up the hype.

Firefly-Vaporizer-Review-Small-IconThis is a very small, sleek and rounded vaporizer, and it comes in a few different colors- black, grey and red. It definitely has that high-tech, modern feel we have come to expect from the more sophisticated vapes out there.

And it is quite portable, at only a few inches in size, you can take it anywhere and not be inconvenienced by its size.

The Firefly uses a convection methods rather than the conduction method that most vaporizers use to heat your herbs,. This means that the heat doesn’t come from a source that touches your herbs. Rather it comes from below your herbs and rises up to heat them from a small distance. This has the benefit of ensuring that your herbs are vaped and not combusted, cutting down on the chance of you inhaling any toxins. It also means that you don’t get a burnt taste with the draws you take.

On the downside, it usually means that the vaporizer takes longer to heat up to where it needs to be. To be able to vaporize your herbs from the distance, a convection vape will have to use more heat than a conduction one.

Using the Firefly is a simple enough process. The herb chamber’s lid is magnetized, and you just slip it off to load it up.  After your putfirefly vaporizer starter kit your herbs in the glass chamber, just slip it back inside the Firefly and close the lid back. Then turn on the power.

To activate it, you will need to hold down the heat button. This provides instant heat and vaporizes your herbs and creates that vapor you inhale. The longer you hold down the button, the more heat is applied and the hotter the inside of the chamber will become.

As it heats up, the glass bowl will become bright red. This is where the Firefly gets its name, and it’s a neat little trick that makes the unit visually interesting.

And even though the heat is instant, it is designed in such a way that as soon as you let off the button the heat stops and your herbs are saved from scorching. You really only need to depress the power button when you are inhaling. This keeps your throat from burning and makes sure that your herbs are vaped at the right temperature.

The herb chamber and the easy-open lid are all wide and able to accommodate easy cleaning. It won’t take much to get them looking spotless again, and they are far easier to clean than many other vaporizers that have narrow openings.

The Firefly has a battery life that is only good for about 20-25 draws. That’s not a lot, to be honest, but it makes up for it with its fast recharge time. It takes less than an hour to fully charge it. The herb chamber seems designed to work with the short battery life. It’s a small chamber that doesn’t hold more than 0.2g of ingredients.

That’s not much space at all, and it’s only good for 6 or 7 draws before you have to refill.

The Firefly is really made for people on the go who just need a quick vape before they move on again. If you need to vape more than few times before you get home and charge this thing, then you may want to get an extra battery. The batteries are replaceable, so if you carry a spare you’ll get a lot more out of the unit throughout the day.

We love how quickly the vapor is produced in this thing. With most other portable vapes you have to wait a minute or more to get it vaping. With this, you can vape instantly, with no wait time whatsoever. But, we would recommend that you do give it a little time to heat up before you vape. Just depress the power button for a few seconds before you take your first draw. This gives the device time to heat up the herbs and ensures that you get a strong vapor.

Otherwise, your herbs may not be fully cooked and you may get a mouthful of hot air instead. It’s not a big deal, but it does mean that when you first use it, you will need to warm it up.

The vapor quality is excellent. We experienced a tasty and clear hit of vapor each time we used it, even down to the last of our herbs.

There is plenty to love about the Firefly. We especially like how quickly it can go from resting in your pocket to providing you with great vapor. You would be hard-pressed to find a vape that is more convenient. It is really designed for people who want something portable that they can just take out and use at any moment, no matter how short that moment may be.

If you are tired of long wait times and confusing operating procedures the other vaporizers have, then the Firefly may just be what you need.

  • Heats up fast
  • Provides clear, crisp vapor every time
  • Fast battery recharge time
  • Very easy to use
  • High quality craftsmanship

  • Requires more heat up time than advertised to get a really good vape
  • Small herb chamber limits what you can vape

Next to the Solo, this is our favorite portable vape. We love how easy it is for anyone to use, and we would recommend to new and experienced users alike. At $270, it’s not cheap, but you shouldn’t be looking at the Firefly if you want something cheap anyway. This sheer quality through and through, and we can’t recommend it enough.

Firefly Vaporizer
QSC Rating: 92/100 by

  1. The Firefly vaporizer I received was defective – it could not be used for more than 10 minutes without recharging – so I phoned Firefly tech support. I was told not to worry: the unit is under warranty for a year and I could send it back for repair at any time within that period, but I was NOT told that the battery is only warranted for 30 days. When I sent the unit back later in the year, Firefly determined that the battery was defective but they informed me that I would have to pay for a new battery. If I had been told when I phoned shortly after purchasing the unit that the problem might be the battery and I should send the unit back immediately, I would have done that, but I was not given correct information by Firefly support, so I did not return the unit immediately. Although the fault lies with Firefly support for failing to give me accurate information, I must now pay for a new battery. Lousy product, terrible support, insensitive customer service!

  2. After reading all the reviews of the Firefly, I decided this would be the best vaporizer even with the price. I have not had a Firefly for an entire year, in fact, this will be my 3rd one in a little under 11 months, all of them have died, the “firefly” quits completely. I am extremely disappointed as each one that I send back I have to wait about 4-5 weeks for a new one (if they can’t fix my old one). Lots of money for little use.

  3. I’ve had my Firefly since December and have had nothing but problems. Out of the box it wouldn’t hold a charge for longer than 12 hours or 4 hits whichever came first. I returned it to the company who sent it back after two weeks and with no packing slip listing what was work was done. The unit had the same exact problem. After contacting customer service again they told me that they replaced the circuit board and heating coil and sent it back. They also said that the technician noticed that the battery was near the end of it’s life… That means that they sent it with a bum battery to begin with and didn’t bother sending an email or a note with the reconditioned unit. Also, this assumes that they replaced the board and coil knowing that the problem was most likely the battery, which… wait for it… has only a 30 day warranty. Great job guys! While this appears to be a quality product, it is made and serviced by amateurs. Possibly great product but a garbage company. Buyer be forewarned!

  4. I have never been more disappointed with a product. It has a terrible draw, I literally can’t get anything off it and the battery literally lasts for a few mins before dying and takes over 45 mins to charge! To make things worse I returned the product thinking it has to be faulty. It was returned to me with no repair report and guess what, it’s still a useless piece of crap. I’ve emailed support about 30 times asking for my money back but they just keep giving me the run around, asking the same questions in different ways and always taking over a week to respond to me. I’ve never received such poor service or been so disappointed with a product. Do NOT waste your money on a Firefly!! What a nightmare.

  5. I bought the Fire Fly 1. It’s easy until you start inhaling. You need a good set of lungs to get a good cloud. And that’s the real small one. 400 digress is quite hot and my unit doesn’t get hot to the touch. Could it be the type of tobacco I using. That’s why I gave the Firefly a 4 stars.

  6. We will reach out to the other side. I think Americans, Wisconsonites, will find out thaatio report is, in effect, a complete financial reference for the sector. What can the report be useding their prices..

  7. Bought the Firefly 1 Spent a lot of money on it used it three times, then while it was heating up heard a pop the entire inner glass bowl shattered from the heat of the coils causing small glass fragments to fall into the device. Contacted Firefly about it and they said their 5 year warranty wouldn’t cover it. Very Disappointed in the product was super excited about it when i got it really unfortunate that i spent all that money for a defective device.
