How to Find the Best Dab Pen? Top 6 Wax Pens Under $100

Top Dab Pens

Dabbing, i.e. vaping highly concentrated doses of cannabis oil, is the next level of vaping marijuana for both recreational and medicinal purposes. But for vaping waxes, you need a special vaporizer known as a wax vaporizer. And those who want a more portable device, go for a wax pen aka wax vape pen or dab pen.

The wax pens are compact devices that offer a rich, smooth taste and also help you cut back on the toxins released when waxes are combusted during smoking.

1. Series 3 Vaporizer Kit with Wax Cartridge

Price: $59.99 (plus $24.99 for the Series 3 Wax Cartridge)

Series 3 Dab PenWith their Series 3 and Series 7 vaporizers, V2 has changed the way modern vaporizers are designed. The V2 Pro Series 3 offers peerless performance, and supports dry herbs, e-liquids, and waxes, and yet is available at a price point, far below anything else on the market.

Thanks to some innovative engineering, we can compare the cartridge capacity and battery life of the Series 3 with much bigger devices. Using the dab pen is extremely easy, just fill up your cartridge, and slam it on the device to get amazingly flavorful, thick vapor.

Although we’re not a big fan of V2’s customer service, but the design, build quality, and performance of the Series 3 make it worth every penny. Remember, to use the V2 Pro Series 3 as a dab pen, you’ll have to purchase the cartridges separately.

2. PAX Era Concentrates Vape Pen

Price: $59.99 (Cartridges Sold Separately)Exclusively available in CA/CO

Pax ERaPax has been called “the Apple of vaping,” and with their new pen Era it’s easy to see why. The Pax Era is a sleek, 3-inch-long pen with no buttons or screens, and has been designed for intuitive use. All you have to do is put the pen to your lips and puff. The pen requires specific pre-filled cartridges called Era Pods, so you won’t be filling the pen yourself. The pods are sold separately for about $40 each.

One of the Pax Era’s most interesting features is the Pax Vapor App that acts as the control panel for the pen. Once you download it, you can control temperature and heat settings with precision from your phone. The Era charges its 2600 mAh battery to full in just one hour via a micro-USB port. The design of the Pax is impressive, and its ease of use has earned it a high spot on our list.

3. Keymaker Wax Vaporizer Pen

Price: $39.95

MigVapor Keymaker Dab Pen

Keymaker Wax pen is high on our list mainly because despite its extremely small size and affordable price, you can expect to get massive clouds of vapor. The Keymaker has been given nicknames like Keymaker Mini Portable Dab Pen and Mig’s Discrete Wax Pen, and rightly so. Available in black with Mig Vapor logo on the front and shaped like a USB memory stick, it not only looks elegant but also fits in your hand or pocket very easily.

Keymaker Wax pen features a 360 mAh micro battery that goes from zero to full in just one hour but can last for a lengthy vaping session. What really makes it an ideal pen for dabs is that it can go up to 455F with a 2-3 second heat up time, which is amazing for such a tiny gadget that measures only 3/4 x 4.5. On top of that, a handy dab tool for easy refilling and a non-stick silicone container included in the kit make the overall experience quick and hassle-free.

4. Yabba Dabber Wax Vape Pen

Price: $42.95

Yabba DabberThanks to the extremely compact and beautiful design, coupled with Mig Vapor’s latest True Convection Technology™, the Yabba Dabber makes a formidable dab pen. The advanced ceramic heating element with concealed coil has the ability to reach 455F, and yet offers extremely smooth and clean flavor as the waxes never get in direct contact with the metallic coil. The 500 mAh battery is powerful enough to last a whole day of vaping.

The overall design of the pen-like Yabba Dabber dab pen is good but not as impressive as the Keymaker wax pen. Another good thing about the Yabba Dabber is that in addition to waxy concentrates, it is also compatible with dry herbs, making it worth the price. What’s more, the kit includes several handy accessories, with an impressive wireless USB charger and a free Quartz Coil (that costs about $10).

5. Dr. Dabber Aurora

Price: $99.95

Aurora Dab PenAt number five is our most expensive and one of the very best performing, customizable vape pens, the Dr. Dabber Aurora wax pen. What really sets it apart from the competition is that while most other dab pens offer just one preset heat setting, the Dr. Dabber allows you to customize your vaping for the type of concentrate you’re using by choosing any of the three different settings.

Another exclusive feature of the Dr. Dabber is its snaptech magnetic connections that ensure an ideal connection between mouthpiece, atomizer, and battery, and also make assembling/disassembling the device very easy. Three unique atomizers and the powerful variable voltage battery let you customize the pen just the way you like.

The simplistic, elegant pen-shaped design is also another plus, though we wish the pen was available in more colors than just the satin finish. All in all, this is one of the very best dab pens with great performance and rich vapor. The only issue with the pen is its high price, or it would have been in the top two.

5. G Pen Wax Vape Pen

Price: $59.95

G Pen Dab PenIdeal for thicker, solid concentrates, the G Pen dab vaporizer by Grenco science is a handy little, sleek pen. Its biggest selling points are ease of use and high performance. Fill up the chamber with your desired concentrates, and get instant, thick vapor with the push of a button.

The 5” dab pen has a nice, stealthy design and can be easily concealed in a clenched fist. In addition to the nice design, the build also seems pretty sturdy. Although the pen will need regular cleaning and maintenance for good performance, it has fewer parts and is very easy to disassemble and reassemble. You’ll also need to clean the screw threads with an alcohol solution for the optimal flow of electric conduction.

We really like the overall design and performance of the G Pen but it has a rather short battery life. Also, we believe that its price is slightly on the higher side. All in all, the pros of the G Pen outweigh the cons, and if you primarily vape solid concentrates, you just can’t go wrong with this little dab pen.

6. MicroG Dab Pen

Price: $69.95

Micro G Dab PenYet another tiny dab pen by Grenco Science, ideal for medium to thick concentrates. It’s more expensive but also more stylish than the G Pen vaporizer. Although micro in size, it’s monumental in performance. We were surprised to see considerably large plumes of vapor from a dab pen. Obviously, these clouds of vapor can’t be compared with those from a regular vaporizer, but the microG arguably offers bigger clouds than any other dab pen.

The microG wax pen comes with the elegant design and offers extreme ease of use, the two benchmarks of Grenco Science. It comes with a Li-ion battery, that can last up to two days of vaping on a single charge. We also liked the 15 sec auto shutoff feature that turns the pen off if you take a drag for longer than 15 seconds.

Although slightly thicker, the 4” long pen is even shorter than the G Pen and can be concealed very easily. In fact, it’s one of the smallest solid concentrate dab pens available on the market. The price tag might seem higher, but considering the build quality, performance, and all the accessories you get in the kit, the pen isn’t expensive at all.

What is a Wax Pen and How is it Different?

Wax Pen Chamber

The chamber in the wax vaporizers is different from regular vape pen.

While it might look like a normal vaporizer pen, dab pen is different as it is specially designed to let you vape waxes such as hash oil for medical uses or in places where it’s legal to do. Just like a regular vape pen, they have a battery, a heating element, and a mouthpiece, that work in conjunction to turn waxes into vapor and give you the pleasure or relief from pain. However, the dab pens have special chambers that can handle waxy oil concentrates. You can also find multipurpose pens that allow you to vape multiple materials such as e-liquids and dry herbs in addition to waxes. Usually, they use special attachments that work for each type of medium you use and are more expensive.

So, if you’ll be only vaping waxy concentrates, a dab pen is an affordable, viable choice. However, the wax vape pens should never be used for any other material.

How to Choose the Ideal Wax Vape Pen:

With tons of vape pens flooding the market, choosing one can be an overwhelming task. In fact, many new vapers end up buying expensive, low-quality dab pens and get dejected when they don’t get the performance they were hoping for. On top of that, different vapers have different vaping needs. For instance, an ideal dab pen for a vaper who wants a higher throat hit but doesn’t care much about the thickness of the vapor might be useless for another individual who only cares about rich flavor and thick vapor. While we’ll discuss some of the very best wax pens, first let’s talk about the basic steps to choose the right dab pen for you needs:

1. What Type of Material You’ll Use?

Dab iconThis is a no-brainer. If you will vape waxes only, don’t waste money on more expensive hybrid dab pens.

But if you’re a new vaper, and are not sure what type of material you’ll be vaping, then you may consider an all-in-one wax pen.

2. Battery Life and Charging

battery-lifeAre you a chain vaper, or will you vape only when there is a gathering on the weekend? Depending on how frequently you’ll vape, you’ll need a dab pen that has a battery life to fulfill your vaping needs. Some dab pens can last for hours or even days on a single charge but are costly, while others have short battery life and are usually affordable. Moreover, some wax pens can be charged with a micro USB cable while some need a custom charger.

3. Compactness and Portability

portabilityYou can find several small, virtually concealable wax pens that easily disappear in your fist. Such pens are extremely handy for stealth vaping. However, these pens usually have smaller batteries and smaller heating chambers. Choose a pen according to your needs i.e. whether you want a powerful wax pen or a more discreet one. 4. Warranty Indicates Quality

warrantyThe warranty offered by the manufacturer can be a major sign of the quality and performance of a dab pen you’re considering.

A reputable brand will have faith in its products and will back them with a longer warranty.

5. Appearance and Build Quality

quality-iconAlmost all dab pens look elegant due to their compact size and sleek designs, however, some are more sophisticated and look like high-tech gadgets. While the appearance might not have any impact on the performance or vapor quality of the product, but a good looking dab pen will make you the envy of your friends. Also, don’t forget to consider the materials used to make the pen. Metallic pens will definitely outlive the cheap plastic ones.

6. Price

price-iconPrice is the least important factor in my book, as I believe that paying a few extra bucks for a good-quality product saves you a lot more money as well as hassle in the long run. Wax pens come in a wide variety of prices, and you will find one that fits your bill. We have chosen pens that will cost you under $100, yet offer top performance.

Final Thoughts

We recommend choosing a full-sized vaporizer if you plan to frequently vape waxes, however, dab pens are definitely an ideal choice for vaping concentrates while you’re on the go. Choosing the right wax pen can be confusing, but if you keep the above-mentioned points and use some common sense, you will definitely get a decent pen at an affordable price.
